Any shopdrawings development should be preceded by a thorough project and design analysis, accordingly DEP will conduct a complete in-depth design review through their senior and most skilled design Engineers and Specialists with relevant experience covering all MEP systems, equipment sizing, ducts and pipes routing, cooling and load calculations, deviations from international codes, local standards and/or code of practice in addition to internal coordination for services running above ceiling, inside shafts and recessed in reflected ceilings.

The outcome of this phase will take the form of a report including the design defects and proposed solutions for the Client perusal. The review will mainly consist of:

I. MEP SYSTEMS
  1. Compliance with international codes and standards
  2. Compliance between drawings and specifications
  3. Tie-in points coordination between the surrounding infrastructure and the Project
  4. Cooling thermal load
  5. HVAC ducts sizing criteria (sound level, air flow, etc.)
  6. Equipment schedule
  7. Water supply and drainage plans, sizing and material selection
  8. Fire Fighting pump rating and hydraulic calculations
  9. Firefighting and Fire alarm drawings compliance with NFPA requirements
  10. Smoke management compliance with NFPA requirements
  11. Electrical load and transformers rating and numbers
  12. Load flow calculation; i.e. cable sizing, C.B. discrimination and ratings, voltage drop and short-circuit calculations
  13. Lighting calculations, UGR and luminaires classification, and FOH lighting coordination with emergency system
  14. Communications and security systems design with special emphasize on flexibility and expandability
  15. Public address system
  16. Energy metering system
  17. Lighting control and BMS design
  18. Layout of MV switchboard rooms and substations
II. COORDINATION
  1. Technical rooms’ equipment fit-out and service shafts,
  2. Adequacy of ceiling heights and above false ceiling clearances,
  3. ID and MEP coordination consisting of reflected ceiling plans,
  4. ID and electrical coordination consisting of power and communication outlets.

METHODOLOGY AND SEQUENCE OF PRODUCTION:

The shop drawings production is based on multiple layers of development and coordination following a strict sequence taking into consideration the site construction progress by prioritizing all deliverables related to concrete pouring such as slabs and walls openings reservations usually issued in separate drawings called Builder’s Works preceded by vertical risers sizing hence freezing the shafts and allowing MEP site works launching.

The latter is followed by the main horizontal connections sizing and routing consisting mainly of ducts, large pipes and cable trays. The following sequence of production has proven to be most beneficial namely in fast-track projects:

  1. Vertical risers (ducts, pipes, cable trays and busducts laid in shafts)
  2. Main branch connections (Major ducts, pipes and cable trays sizing along with routing shown as single line with complete coordination with structure, RCP and other MEP services)
  3. Implementation layouts (Composite ceiling plans including AC diffusers, lighting, sprinklers, fire alarm, speakers, cameras, Wifi Access points and maintenance access panels coordinated using the exact sequence)
  4. Piping and conduiting layouts (Lighting, small power, Fire Alarm, Fire Fighting, Chilled Water, water supply and drainage final layouts with dimensions, supports and all necessary details).
